I'm back!

Well, hello my wonder friends out there in la la land. It has been a very long time since you heard from me right?

What can I say? I was a very busy lady. Once my first year of touching began it took off! Now here I am starting year 2 and I am very excited for another great year.  I am at the same school teaching kinder again. I have 3 weeks left of summer break (sad face) so I have already begun to prepare myself. I will be updating my blog soon with more post about teaching, lindy hop adventures, fashion, makeup, and just all things I love.

See ya soon!

Seriously...

Amigos!

Ok, seriously. I'm going to try and blog more. I have just been so preoccupied with getting my new classroom ready and trying to enjoy my last weeks of summer break.  I have been able to get about half of the things done that I need for my class. The rest is waiting for payday. I have a lot of labeling to do, which I couldn't do with out my class roster. We get those tomorrow! :)

Here is a cool panorama I took of room 27! It's not done yet. I will make sure to post back when it is.

Love,
Annette

News, news, news!

Happy Sunday babes!
Working on a clip chart I purchased on TPT.

Here we are June 29, 2014. It's Bobby's 29th birthday and I'm also here already planning for 2014-2015 school year. Yes, my friends, you read that correctly I was offered a position for next year teaching kindergarten! I am so very excited for this new journey. I am a first year teacher which brings me feelings of excitement and nervousness. I hope that it is a good year and that I do all the right things.

Lovingly,

Annette

My Sweet Mother.

The unimaginable has happened. I lost her. I lost my mom to cancer.

My worst fear came true. There are many things that run through my mind all the time. I have many questions that mostly begin with why and how.

This post would be endless if I went into detail about how all this happened and how I'm feeling inside. All I can say is that this pain is constant. You want to know what it feels like to lose a parent? It's a constant feeling of hurt, a broken heart, it never goes away. If you let it consume you, it will always make you cry.

Now I must learn how to live life without her.  Pray for me.

I promise my next post will be happier.

Spring Break and Subbing.

Hi all!

I've been a tad busy the past couple of weeks because I have finally started subbing for the local school district. Let me tell you, it has been so exciting. I have subbed at two great schools, including, my old home Carson Street Elementary School.

Friday morning I woke up and got ready just as I always did. I pulled into the parking lot, parked in the same place I used to for 6 years as a teacher's assistant. Only this time as I walked in taking the same route to the office, I thought to myself, Wow I am not a t.a anymore I am a teacher. It felt so great to be back! I received a wonderful welcome from everyone!

I am still on the hunt for a permanent position and I know if I'm patient the opportunity will come. However, there are days where I feel frustrated. Sigh...

Any who, spring break is upon us! You know what that means? Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Weekend! I cannot wait so be on the look out for a blog post on that soon.

XOXO

The Hump Day Lindy Hop Story

Hi loves!

Happy hump day! It's Wednesday and we are half way there. My district is on spring break so I am taking advantage.

Today I wanted to share with you how Nick (my boyfriend of 6 years) and I got into swing dancing...or what it's really called, lindy hop. I get asked this question a lot by friends and family who are not apart of the dance community.

Well, it all started at the land of the mouse. Yes, Disneyland. We are annual pass holders. One sweet summer night we were passing by Tomorrowland Terrace when I heard the rich sounds and beats of Elvis music. Yes, I'm talking Elvis Presley, the King. Needless to say, Nick and I decided to stop and listen. I've been an Elvis Presley fan since I was a kid. Heck, thanks to my papi, I love all old music. We noticed that towards the back of the crowd there were a group of people dancing to this music. Now I don't mean like booty shakin' poppin' lockin' type of dancing. No I mean like really dancing to the music. Nick and I looked at each other and said "Hey they're swing dancing."

After a few weeks and some google searching, Nick found the Atomic Ballroom in Irvine, Ca. On Sundays they were teaching beginning swing. So every Sunday for 6 weeks we drove to Irvine and gave it our very best. Let me tell you, it is not easy. I was starting my steps on my left foot (wrong!) and there were times where Nick and I almost broke up in disagreements regarding our dancing.

To make a long story short...err or longer, we finished the course. After that we decided to try it out for ourselves. Every Saturday night the sights and sounds of Carnation Plaza Gardens at Disneyland come alive with some sensational swing bands. Nick and I used this time to get our practice in.

About 3 months later, we came to point where we needed more. This was when we found Rusty Frank's school, Lindy By The Sea in El Segundo, Ca. Personally, this is when I felt that I became a real dancer. After taking her six month track Nick and I really started dancing. This is when we grew even more.

And the rest is history, my friends.

I cannot imagine my life and my relationship with Nick without swing dancing. It has helped me as a person and in my relationship with Nick. We became closer and we challenged each other in many ways. It has helped me build self confidence and so much more. Not just that it's great cardio and I swear it's the only way I stay skinny and in shape :) It has also opened up many doors for us, as well as, many great adventures!

So are you ready to sign up?

Sunday Evening Blues.

Good evening babes! Or maybe it's good morning depending on what time I post this.

The weekend has come to end and I can't help but feel some Sunday blues. Strange right? This weekend was rather different because Nick worked all day on Saturday and I had a family day with my parents at home.

My Mom's recovery has been somewhat tough. She is doing well but the pain is just straight annoying. However, I want to take the time to really thank those of you who have been there for her throughout the past couple of weeks. Our Martinez family has been nothing but amazing to her. She appreciates that and I do as well. It's during times like these that you know who really cares.

Tonight Nick and I are heading to Joe's in Burbank to get a little bit of our dance on. I was at Daiso yesterday and purchased this cute little fan for dancing.
